About the artist
Robert Mathys is an accomplished Swiss painter, sculpture and goldsmith with a distinctive abstract style creating dynamic works with a marked feeling for modern aesthetics. Even though many different materials have run through his hands, he has always returned to painting acrylic on canvas as the preferred medium for his work.
Roberts contemporary paintings are bold, bright and full of colour combining fluid movement with strong lines and geometric shapes utilizing unique mixed media techniques. He will often spend weeks working on one piece; repeatedly returning to a canvas adding layers, depth and drama to each painting.
While training as a goldsmith, Robert, born 1954, attended the Basel School of Design with semesters in painting and structural formation. He deepened his artistic passion with various stays abroad taking great interest in sculpture and the use of bold colours during his time living in South Africa in the 1970s.
